Creating a guide for this age group was tricky because development is so different for each child between the ages of 3-5 (and not that any child is ever the same, but skills and interests are more unique between these ages). Toddlerhood gets a bad rap, and although it can be challenging, it’s full of exciting changes, and you get to experience their little personalities in full force. I decided to do it all in one post, but I broke it down into 4 parts. Toys for 3-5-year-olds I keep the following in mind.
open-ended
malleable
help develop fine motor skills
hands-on, manipulative
stacking, fitting, twisting smaller pieces
toys that wiggle, scoot, bounce
promote storytelling and creative engagement
foster imaginative play
role-playing and group interaction
speedier movement toys
building toys, stem toys (encourage problem-solving and creativity, interactive, improve motor coordinating skills)
