As most children look forward to Christmas or Halloween as their favorite Holiday, I was the kid eager for Easter. And it’s not because it’s during Springtime, or because I love the traditions of dying easter eggs, picking out a pretty dress for Easter Mass. Or Holy Saturday BBQ, Easter Morning brunch, and egg hunt. It’s always been more than just the bright colors, candy, and fun. I LOVE all those things, but the feelings of joy and hope, that for as long as I can remember, overwhelm me on Easter, come from something much more. Growing up in a Catholic household, Easter was the most important day in our faith. I grew up knowing that Our Eternal Father sent his only son, Jesus Christ, to suffer and die for us – the ultimate act of love. Through his death, Jesus conquered sin, and through his resurrection, gave us the promise of new life both here on earth and in Heaven. Everything Easter celebrates is what grounds me in my faith and has always been a great comfort. My hope is that I can pass down the celebration of Jesus’ life, teachings, and resurrection the same way my parents did for me.
I put together a simple lesson on the Easter Story and some fun activities to do with your little ones during Holy Week. I also included some easter basket and outfit ideas. I hope that you can finish of this lenten season in gratitude and reflection, and enjoy the joyous celebration of Easter.
