I know I’ve been posting quite a bit on sales and holiday stuff, but it’s only in the hope that it may be helpful as you prepare for the holidays. I never want to pressure anyone into buying stuff they don’t need. I recommend stores and products I like and use myself. Just because it works for me, it may not be a great fit for you, so I hope you can use the tips below to discern as you shop.
TIPS FOR NOT OVERSPENDING DURING THE HOLIDAY SALES
- Have a game plan
I like to make a list of the gifts and items I plan on buying during the holiday season. This will help with the distraction of other things and will keep you on track.
- Set a budget
Estimate how much each item/gift will be. Be realistic about the amount of money you can spend by reviewing your monthly expenses.
- Ask yourself the following questions
Is this item on my list?
Is it within my budget?
If not on your list,
How often will I use this item?
Do I have room to store this item?
Where else could this money go?
- If you are unsure whether you should buy an item, bookmark or save it on a wishlist; revisit in a couple of weeks. Purchasing stuff solely because it’s on sale is never a good enough reason to buy something.
- Remind yourself that there will always be more sales and that it’s just STUFF.
With all that said, sales can be super helpful when they correlate with your plan and budget. Don’t be tempted to buy something only because it’s on sale (:
