April felt super long, and I imagine you all feel the same way. Staying home and never leaving your house for a month will do that to you. BUT here are some random things that brought me a little bit of joy amidst the worldly chaos. I hope this list does the same for you (:
Pinch of Yum: I stumbled upon this food blog on Instagram and WOW! Ive already used several of her recipes, all of which are easy, healthy, and delicious. What I love about the recipes is that they are not overloaded with a ton of ingredients and are usually made up of basic fridge and pantry items. I especially loved the sweet potato muffins and carrot coffee cake.
A Place For Us by Fatima Farheen Mirza: A novel about the lives of an Indian- American Muslim family. The narrative covers decades of the families’ life and is shown through each members perspective. this novel illustrates the complicated but deep relationships filled with beautiful and tender moments in between the hard ones. I really enjoyed reading a novel set in a culture different from the one I grew up in and finding relatable sentiments.
Your Blue Flame by Jeniffer Fulwiler: Another book recommendation. I don’t typically recommend books until I finish them, but Im half way through and love it too much to not to add on this list. Jeniffer Fulwiler, a mom six, a standup comic, and the host of a daily talk show on SiriusXM, lays out a guide to finding your Blue Flame (she describes as a special skill, a personal passion, a gift or talent.) I don’t know if I’ll find my blue flame reading this book, but it has me chuckling every other sentence, so it’s a win!
Aerie Sunwashed Desert Hoodie and Jogger: I succumbed to the loungewear ads bombarding me on social media and no regrets because this set is COMFY and so cute. I have in the color canyon creek and I’m obsessed.
Setting the World on Fire by Alanna Murray: A beautiful article written by my good friend for The Young Catholic Woman, offering wise and true words during this time of difficulty. Her perspective is refreshing and inspiring and was just the reminder I needed. I know you will appreciate as well.
Billie: I was curious to see if this razor was worth all the hype. Is it the most amazing thing ever, well it’s just a razor. But its a pretty good razor with a handy magnetic holder. You can subscribe for auto delivery which is helpful if you’re like me and forget to stock up on these types of items. Overall, I’m pleased with the product.
20 Ideas for Zoom Calls Besides Talking About the Coronavirus: I appreciate guided discussion, and this list is a great way to keep your mind and conversation away from the depressing news of covid. I especially appreciated the sharing of memes.
Speaking of Memes, April Hoss from coffee and Crumbs podcast does a Meme contest every week on her IG, with prizes from the cutest small shops. I live for it every week as it provides the comic relief that is very much needed.
This Bubble Machine is probably my best quarantine purchase. My kids love this thing and when the witching hour rolls around this cures all crankiness.
4 weeks to read: We just finished up the first 30 lessons and we love this program. The lessons are a quick 15 minutes, but effective and designed to build as you go. What I loved most about it is that blending is introduced early on, so that kids understand the basics of reading without the pressure of memorizing every letter and sound first. The program is easy to follow and comes all packaged with just enough materials so that you don’t fee overwhelmed. Highly Recommend!
Workouts! If you are looking for free workouts to do at home, take a look at MadFit on youtube. Many of her workouts require little to no equipment and are easy to squeeze into your day.
Lastly, Ive downloaded the Hallow and its replaced all other prayer apps I had on my phone. I love to turn on the rosary daily and pray along while cleaning or working. The voices are soothing and the app is not outdated like most prayer apps. It also includes different meditations and the Gospel Readings. Check it out if you want to get into a better rhythm of praying everyday!
Aannnd that’s a wrap!!!
